Orison Swett Marden, 1901
The modernised edition, with a 30-day practice

Why this edition exists
Marden founded Success magazine in 1897, and this short book sits close to where the whole self-help shelf begins. It is also, in the original, hard going — dense prose, the argument buried under Victorian throat-clearing, and a cast of names nobody has recognised for a century.
Part one — the book, made readable
The complete text, rewritten for a modern reader. The argument, the anecdotes and Marden's voice are his; what has gone is the padding. Every factual claim was checked against primary sources — fourteen editor's notes record what the original got wrong. One passage lost from every digital copy of this book has been recovered from a 1951 anthology and restored.
Part two — the 30-day practice
Marden's actual claim is that willpower is trained the way a body is trained. So this is not a reflection journal. Every morning gives you one small, slightly uncomfortable task; every evening asks what actually happened. Thirty day pages, four weekly reviews, five themes — attention, decision, difficulty, persistence, purpose — and every task drawn from the book itself.
You can run that practice free, in your browser, before buying anything — start day one here. The paid edition adds the book itself, and a copy you can print and write on by hand.
Said plainly: the 1901 text is public domain and free elsewhere. What you are paying for is the editing, the fact-checking and the practice — not the words themselves. The modernisation was produced with AI assistance from the public-domain source and then checked against primary sources; the cover is AI-generated. All of that is stated inside the book too.
